TIME IN TEXAS: TRIP TO FORT WORTH

Texas:

  • The home of Sandy Cheeks from the animated series SpongeBob SquarePants.

  • Where all of George Strait’s exes live.

  • “A bunch of cornfields and wheat farms, man it all looks the same” -Jason Aldean

  • Square dancing, football, and cowboys.

  • Big cities and lots of people.

We all know it by something, but to me, Texas is one of a few places I would love to call home one day.

A couple weeks ago I had the privilege to go on a trip to the Dallas-Fort Worth area to visit some of my family, and I am extremely thankful for that opportunity for many reasons.

The trip started off with at 4:00pm with a 13+ hour drive ahead and one stop in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

In Tuscaloosa, I visited the home of the Crimson Tide for the first time (Go Dawgs) and was able to eat at FIVE Bar. This was a great start to the trip, as the menu had 5 options and all were great choices. If you know me, I get overwhelmed when it comes to ordering, so it’s better to just give me a couple choices, or even order for me, 5 Bar did the trick. When we arrived in Mansfield, Texas the next day, we ate pizza and went to bed shortly after, due to the 8 hour trip.

The next day, we went to the famous stockyards of Fort Worth. I got to see some pretty cool architecture and embrace my inner cowboy. We went to Tecovas, Cavenders, Maverick Fine Western Wear, Ariat Boots, saw some saloons, and even pondered going to Billy Bob’s. Even though I thoroughly enjoyed the stock yards, the coolest part of it all was being able to eat In-N-Out burger afterwards for the first time, as we don’t have one in Georgia!

The rest of our trip we spent time with family and continued to visit some really neat places and eat extremely well. A few of my top recommendations are as follows (in so specific order): Rodeo Goat, The Velvet Taco, and Chicken N Pickle. All of these places are awesome for different reasons. Rodeo Goat is known for their burgers, and every time I visit I enjoy a good meal. This trip was my first time eating at The Velvet Taco, and my food was delicious. There were all different styles and types of tacos available from one inside of a pancake, to a waffle, to normal corn and flour. Lastly was Chicken N Pickle which had par food, but was mainly known for its atmosphere. It was the place to go for hosting parties, friends, and family. Inside, they had shuffle board, televisions with sports games on, an indoor pickleball facility, and normal eating areas. Outdoors they had more pickleball courts, cornhole everywhere, outdoor shuffleboard, televisions, and eating/lounging areas as well.

On the drive back to Georgia we stopped in West Monroe, Louisiana to visit Duck Commander/Buck Commander headquarters and to get some merch. We also stopped in Clinton, Mississippi for lunch at the Froghead Grill. Then, we stayed in Tuscaloosa once more before finally making it home to ole Middle GA.

When I made it home, walked in my door and began to unpack, I was definitely a little sad. But I realized that it’s not neccesarily a bad thing to be sad. Maybe one day I will get to call Texas my home myself.
